  • Life is Like a Seed that Needs to be Nurtured

“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant” – Robert Louis Stevenson.

Your attitude about the future depends on your ability to see the future.

Every person has the inherent ability to dream, design, and experience the future through their hopeful imaginations.

Whatever the capacity the mind has to imagine, it also has the ability to create. All human beings carry a seed to create.

All growth comes from within. We all carry the seed to succeed and grow in whatever we put our minds to.

In other words, life is like a seed. If you look around, you will realise that there is nothing that was not created. Believe it or not, everything you see was first conceived as a seed.

The question you might be asking is if we all carry the seed of success why is it that only a few people are successful?

Well the biggest challenge with most of us is that we let the seed go to waste. We do not take good care of it.

You see for any seed to grow, it must be nurtured and nourished. This is the process that we do not want to undertake.

Nurturing and nourishing a seed takes a lot of effort and time, discipline, and is hard work.

Recently I started a small backyard garden. I have been growing plants from seeds. It has taken me close to 3 months to grow pepper, from seed to now almost harvest time.

I have not yet harvested it and anything could go wrong before then. So not until we have enjoyed the first harvest, we have not yet enjoyed the benefits of our labour.

So it is with life, it is like a tree. It starts as a seed and grows into a tree. Any seed has the potential to grow into a tree.

However, whether the seed will grow into a tree and produce good fruit or not will depend on the quality of the nutrients.

See for any seed to sprout and grow it needs dirt or better still soil otherwise if left open the sun will burn it.

Now soil contains nutrients that are necessary for the growth of the seed. I believe it takes a lot of energy for the small seed to push itself up from underground to the surface.

Better still it has to adapt to the different weather patterns and conditions to grow and start bearing good fruit.

    Nurture and Nourish that Seed

Whatever it is that you want to do in life starts with planting a seed of it. If you want to be successful, you need to understand that it takes hard and smart work to achieve it. Plant the seed of success and begin to work on actualising it.

Look, “somewhere in the Kafue National Park every morning arises an Impala that realises that it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten and die that day, in the same National Park arises a lion that realises that it must run faster than the fastest Impala or it will starve and die that day.”

The moral of the story is that no matter what you do in life you have to run.

No matter who you are you have to run. The running symbolises the work that you have to do on a daily basis.

If you’ve had the opportunity to watch national geographics and observed how both the Impala and the Lion run. You will realise that they do not just run in a straight line.

Life will throw things at you. It’s, therefore, important that you learn how to navigate through those obstacles.

Learning how to navigate through life is not the easiest of things to do. We are constantly learning and adapting to life everyday.

If you are not changing with time then, you are not improving and are most likely to remain behind. It could be the reason why you have stagnated in life.

The dirt or soil symbolises the foundation. This is the hardest part. Making the soil more fertile and conducive for the seed takes learning and discipline.

This helps you build character. Now that you have character with time and endurance you will have nurtured and nourished your ideas and will give birth to your plans or project.

Before you know it you will be reaping the fruits of your labour. The hardest part, however, is the nurturing and nourishing part.

Every good thing takes time. Most of us do not want to endure the soil. We do not want the dirt being thrown at us. We want to skip from seed to fruit.

Allow God to Be at the Centre of Your Plans

The Bible says “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” – Jeremiah 29.

Allowing God in my life has been huge for me. To me, it is clear that whatever plans we have before we implement them we must put them before God.

Ultimately the Lord knows what he has planned for us. It is, therefore, imperative that we conform to the plans of the Lord for our lives.

Allowing God to lead is just wonderful. Yes sometimes we miss it and get off target and yes sometimes things do not go as we want them.

The bigger picture is that God knows what is best for us. I am human just like you and sometimes I question God when things are not going as I expect them. But I have learned to let God to be God in my life.

The comforting thing is that God always makes a way where there seems to be no way. He has better plans for my life than I would ever know.

God is a teacher and accepts anyone as they are. The beauty of following God is that it is at your own free will. He will never force you to obey or follow him.

I have made mistakes and some of the things I have done am not proud of. But I know that he accepts me just the way I am and he can accept you just as you are if you call on him.

    Conclusion

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” – Proverbs.

Do not let those plans; those seeds that you have, go to waste. You have a duty or rather a responsibility to ensure that you do not deprive the world of them.

Lastly, we should learn to give thanks and praise to the Lord because he gives us the opportunity to live and go on with our lives.

  • The Power of Letting Go: Freedom Starts with Forgiveness

Human beings are social by nature. We depend on each other. Whether we want it or not. Whether by design or not. Whether we like it or not. We need each other.

We all depend on each other and even though sometimes if not most of the time we come into conflict with each other. We were meant to co-exist.

Though there can be a lot of friction when people clash, the most important thing and most important lesson to learn in life is having a spirit of forgiveness.

Harbouring bitterness is poisonous to yourself. When you hate you hurt and block yourself from God’s blessings. You shield yourself from his grace.

The question then is, why do you keep hating even when the person you hate has moved on and most of the time they don’t even know that you hate them?

You have no moral right to keep hate in your heart. It just burdens you. It hurts your feelings. It’s stressful for nothing.

Allow your heart to be free and experience true freedom. God created you to enjoy a peaceful life. You can never have peace when you are hurting inside.

Hate is bondage. Forgiveness is freedom from bondage. You will never be free if you have a heart of unforgiveness. You wiĺl never experience full happiness if your heart is burdened with hate.

The reality is that most of the time we keep hate for no real reason. Ask yourself why you hate someone and the reasons will be flimsy.

    God Forgave Us

We have no reason to keep hurting in our hearts because God Almighty already forgave us at the cross. Every whip and tear he shed at the cross was for you and me.

So who are we to keep hating each other when the creator of heaven and earth, the one who knows us inside out, already forgave us? He bore our infirmities and by his stripes we were healed.

The Bible is always encouraging us to live in peace with one another. In fact it commands us to “love your neighbor as you love yourself.” Surely no one hates themselves. I have yet to come across a person who hates themselves.

When we live in peace we are able to progress as humanity and we can help make the world a better place.

The main source of conflicts today is people harboring hate against each other. People looking down upon each other thinking they are more superior than the other. People wanting to subdue each other.

We can reduce wars and conflicts by sitting down on a round table and asking each other for forgiveness. In other words, sitting down and having honest conversations with each other.

There is absolutely no need to fight both physically and mentally. Today, the world witnesses one of the bloodiest wars in the middle east in modern day history all for no real reason.

    It All Starts With You

You have a huge part to play. The decisions you make today will definitely affect the outcome of so many things.

You may not realise it but what you do today has an effect on the general well being of the world. You may be a small entity but you are part of the larger world family.

If only you can do the right thing, you may just be one person but imagine if everyone of us did the right things. Just how much would the world benefit?

Change starts with one person and it moves to the next and the next before you know it, it is all trending and the world is being changed and transformed.

So don’t underestimate the power and the weight you carry. You are such an important component of the world at large.

Remember that a population is made up of individuals that have an independent mind. Collectively we form a united population.

    It Frees You From Bondage

You experience freedom and unburden your heart when you practice forgiveness. We all want to be shown love when we make mistakes. Why? Because we are human.

It’s just human that we feel appreciated. Some need more love than others. It is our duty as human beings to forgive and show love to each other.

This way we create a fertile environment and open our hearts for God’s blessings. There is nothing so soothing and refreshing than knowing that you have been forgiven.

You cannot hope to succeed when you are carrying bitterness in your heart. Bitterness is poison.

This is most common especially among us who call ourselves Christians. We like to have double standards. On one hand we preach God’s word on the other hand we are not living what we preach.

Before you judge your friend, look at the life you are living. Give it a test by comparing it with the standard that has been set by the Christ you profess to follow.

Does it fall short or is it in conformity with his standards then you have the right to judge your friend. Am sure that if we all did this we would not be judging one another instead we would be asking each other for forgiveness.

    To Err is Human

If you are a human being you will always make mistakes. There is no one on this earth who is perfect. We all make mistakes.

No one can claim to live a life that is without blemish. That is why we should all seek God’s help and guidance everyday.

Believe it or not you get through the day by God’s grace. Without which you cannot make it. Whether you are a believer or not, God is so merciful and gracious to all. He lets the sun shine on all his creations. He has given each and everyone of us an equal opportunity.

We have the opportunity to seek God’s guidance and forgiveness on a daily basis. He is not a God who forces things on his creation.

He has given us free will to choose but remember that the choices you make have a large bearing on the results you desire.

It is human to make mistakes. Don’t feel ashamed when you make mistakes, instead it is an opportunity to learn what not to do next time.

We would never have learned as much without making mistakes. It is part of the growth process.

It all Comes Down to You

You make the final call. The ball is in your court. What you decide today has an effect on your future.

The more good decisions you make the more influential you become and the more you impact the world in a positive way.

Your legacy will be determined by the way you live your life; it is what people see that attracts them to you. You cannot expect to leave a good legacy if you are not good yourself.

If they see negativity you will surely attract negative people around you. If you radiate positivity you will see positive people around you.

The choice is yours to make. You have the final say of what you want to be.

    Conclusion

The ultimate goal in life is to experience freedom. This can be achieved when you learn how to forgive.

  • 5 Reasons Why You Should Be Responsible For Your Life

Life is what you make of it. If you make it happy you will enjoy happiness. If you make it boring you will definitely be bored; make it positive and you will live a positive life. You take out of life what you give it, nothing less and nothing more.

In other words, you are responsible for your own life. You are responsible for creating the life that you want. You can chart the course of your life. No one has the right to prescribe what your life should be or look like, without your permission. This is your birth right and your responsibility.

Quit blaming people for what you do not have or have not achieved and start doing something about it. If you are miserable you are solely responsible for ensuring that you change it.

In the first place, you must realise that you are the one who got yourself where you are, based on the decisions and choices you have made.

This is what many people do not realise, that it is everyone’s responsibility to make decisions that will help chart their own lives.

Instead, they wait for someone to come and make decisions for them and they end up waiting for eternity or continue living a life that is controlled by other people.

Do you realise that every decision you make has an immediate or future influence on your life? Your life is made of the small decisions and choices you make every day.

That is why it is important to make the right decisions and choices that have a long lasting and positive influence on your life.

As human beings, we have a tendency of turning a blind eye to facing the reality of making those tough decisions and choices. Especially, if the decisions will lead to some temporary setbacks. This is a bad habit that must be broken.

If you do not make the decision to resolve certain problems, they have a way of showing up in the nearest future. It could just be the reason why certain things are going wrong in your life. Have the courage to make decisions and learn to live with the consequences.

Do not shy away from making those uncomfortable hard decisions that could make or break your life. Do not allow people to take away your responsibility for your own life.

    Take Control of Your Destiny

The results of being responsible for your life are many. When you are in control of your life, you also control your destiny. You decide what is good for you and what is not good for you.

You decide what your life should look like, what direction it should take and what it should be. In other words, you are the captain of your life.

Sometimes things will not go accordingly, but you will be absolutely pleased that you are responsible for everything that happens to your life because you made the decisions and choices yourself. The other thing you will take away is that you will have no one, but you to blame.

Instead, you will find solutions to fix your current inadequacies and correct the situation. Equally, when you succeed you will take all the credit.

Well, you know how it feels to be credited with success. This is what makes life worth living for, the ability to make adjustments and decisions that help propel your life forward.

It doesn’t mean that things will be easy when you are in control, No. But it motivates you to do even more things that make you happy. You set your own goals and move at your own pace.

    Experience Personal Freedom

Every good thing comes with a responsibility. Being responsible is a requisite for personal freedom. It’s an expression of personal freedom and signifies maturity. It is a good measure to use as a self-check to achieve personal development and self-improvement.

There was a time son was learning about his rights as a child at school. One day when he came back home from school he was very excited to tell me about his rights, I asked him to list them down one by one.

What I noticed is that he was not told by the teacher that to every right there is a responsibility. He was only told one side of the story.

I got his list and also wrote down the responsibilities that go with the rights he had listed down. It then dawned on him that to every right he has, there is also a requirement to take responsibility in order to enjoy them rightfully.

I think that is the way life should be. Personal freedom and responsibility go hand in hand. If you want to enjoy the freedom you must take responsibility for it.

We must ensure that we put in place things that will enhance our freedom without infringing on other people’s freedoms. We must learn to coexist as human beings.

    Accountability

Accountability is “responsibility to someone or for some activity.” If you are married you are responsible and accountable to your spouse. Yes, it is your responsibility to be accountable. I know that most men do not want to be accountable to their wives. But it is our responsibility and duty to do that.

I believe that we are all accountable to one another not only to our spouses but to the community at large. How we live our lives is a reflection of how accountable we are.

How then, can you be accountable if you are not in charge of your own life? I am a Christian and believe that one day God will ask us to give an account for our lives.

Being accountable is being responsible. If you work for an Audit or Law firm you are taught to account for your time by way of filling in a timesheet on a regular basis.

You have to be in control of your time because every minute you spend on a file is charged to the client. This is just one way of asking you to be responsible with your time. You do not want to overcharge a client and you also want to give the best advice or service possible.

    A Sense of Belonging

You feel a sense of appreciation when you are contributing to a just cause. You can only contribute more when you are in control of yourself. Those who are totally in charge of their lives contribute more positively to society than those who are not in control of themselves.

As you may well know, human beings are social by nature. Belonging is the feeling of security and support when there is a sense of acceptance, inclusion and identity for a member of a certain group. We all strive to be accepted socially because that is in our nature.

Creating genuine feelings of belonging is a critical factor in improving engagement and performance. You should not trade your acceptance to a group by giving up your responsibility for your life. You have the power and will to choose what type of relationships to belong to.

    It Is Your Duty

Your life is your responsibility. It is your duty to look after it and do what you feel is right with it. At the end of the day, it is you who will be answerable for it to your creator. You will stand in the “dock” and be answerable for how you spent it. What you did with it.

Taking responsibility is acknowledging that you are taking control of your life, it is telling your friends and the world that you are in charge and not your spouse, father, mother, or anyone else.

It brings out the best in you. It is your duty and your birthright to be in charge of yourself.

    Conclusion

One of the most important aspects of taking responsibility for your life is that you will live your life according to your will. No one will live it for you and everything you accomplish will be duly credited to you.

No one will take away the joy and the happiness you will experience. Make sure you are responsible for your life.

  • Don’t Give Up on Yourself, You Have a Second Chance

Every day you wake up you are presented with a chance to impress. Not only yourself or your peers but the world at large.

God always gives us a second chance to redeem ourselves. He knows that we are not perfect and that we are far from being perfect.

He is such a merciful and wonderful God that he always gives us a second chance at life. That is why we should never give up when we are faced with temporary setbacks.

No matter what you have done or have not done in life, just know that there is always a second chance at life.

No one should deceive you that you can never get up and make it. Life has given us all an equal opportunity to succeed. Yes, some may seem like they are ahead.

But, no they are not, your time is coming if you can work it out, you will achieve your goals. They say that being ahead does not mean you will arrive first.

You are not in competition with anyone. You are here to live your own life. You are not responsible for someone else’s life but yours alone.

At the end of the day, you will be accountable for what you have done or have not done with your life. Not for anyone else but yours alone.

    Get Up and Get Going

We all fall down at one point or another and that’s what life is, the only thing you can do when you fall is to get up and get going again.

When you are faced with adversity don’t be discouraged. When things are not going your way don’t give up. When you try and it seems there is no way, just keep pushing. Sometimes life gives you the unexpected.

Those who succeed are those who never give up. Those who achieve more are those who overcome adversities. Those who live to tell the greatest stories are those who have been bruised and have overcome many adversities.

Remember that, it is impossible to move forward if you do not get up after you fall. Do not remain down, get up quickly and figure out what went wrong and resolve how to correct your current pitfalls.

Learn from your failures and always make sure that, you avoid the same mistakes. Failure teaches us the things that we should not do. That is why I always say don’t be afraid to fail. It is part of the growth process.

If you are in a devious situation and you think that it’s the end of the world, you are mistaken there are many people out there in even more precarious situations than you are faced with.

Maybe you don’t know that there is always someone in a much worse condition than you, you should know that today.

Look at what you want to achieve. There is more that lies ahead of you than what you have accomplished so far. There is still more that needs to be done.

Look, God is not done with you, for as long as you have the breadth of life. He still has use for your life. So, get up and go and fulfil your God-given dreams.

    You Could Be the Solution

The world is in need of people who come to offer solutions to the many challenges being faced. You could just be the answer to someone’s problems.

Always be ready to take advantage of what’s coming ahead no matter how little. Be prepared when the chance comes through. You do not want to be a statistic but counted among the people who contributed the most.

Sometimes, we get discouraged or think that we can only contribute small things. But do you realise that it is the small contributions that make the big ones?

Every effort you put into doing something does not go unnoticed. It may not mean as much for now but the more effort you make the closer you move to achieve your success.

Your small contributions done regularly will result in big contributions. Don’t shy away and think that your contributions are not needed or do not count. Every small contribution when added up amounts to something significant.

Small as they may seem they could just be the final bits to achieve success or help out someone. Remember that a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. So take that step and begin the journey.

Every step you take or make moves you closer to your target. Yes, sometimes you may deviate but ultimately with persistence and hard work you will achieve your goals.

If you do not take action, nothing will change and nothing will be accomplished or achieved.

You cannot just sit back and hope that things will work themselves out. You need to work them out yourself. Play your part and leave what you cannot do to God Almighty.

    Have Faith in Yourself

Faith is what keeps us going. Faith is the evidence of things to come. Without faith there is very little we can accomplish.

You cannot achieve much if you don’t have faith in yourself. You cannot claim to have faith in God whom you have not seen and you have no faith in yourself, whom you see and feel every day.

Create an atmosphere of having faith in your abilities even when the task at hand seems impossible. Remember the bible says “I can do all things possible through Christ who gives me strength.”

Have Faith that God will give you the strength to achieve your goals. But don’t just end at having faith. Back up your faith with your works.

You can have as much faith as you want but without works, it amounts to nothing. The Bible says “faith without works is nothing.”

The more faith you have, the more you will overcome what comes ahead of you. The more involved you are the more opportunities are created and presented to you.

Action creates opportunities. So the more action the more opportunities the less action the fewer the opportunities.

Develop an attitude of having faith in yourself and that the sky’s not the limit. If you believe you can do it, just go ahead and do it.

    Conclusion

Life is dynamic and demands that we keep pressing to achieve our goals. Nothing comes on a silver platter. We work for our own breakthroughs and miracles by doing what is right. If you do not act, nothing will happen, life will pass you by.

  • How to Create a Long-Lasting Positive Self-Image

“Life isn’t about finding yourself, life is about creating yourself” ~ George Bernard Shaw.

Before we start please get a piece of paper and write down the answer to the following questions. What do you think about yourself, what do you think your friends, colleagues and peers think about you?

The answers of course will vary from individual to individual and will reflect what you think you radiate and transmit to your associates and peers.

Galileo Galilei once said you cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him find it within himself.”

What most of us do not know is that our positive spirit is the adventurer in us. It’s just a glimpse of what we are capable of doing. Yourself, image is the person you think you are. You are your own creation.

When you carry a low self-image you attract into your life all the experiences and conditions that tell you how poor and pathetic you are.

Conversely, when you are high in spirits you attract all the experiences telling you how great you are.

When you have learned to form mental images of the conditions desired, it will be the easiest and quickest way to secure results; if not, results can be accomplished by argument, by the process of convincing yourself absolutely of the truth of your statement.

Personal development and success have no room for a negative self-image. Which successful person have you ever seen carrying or putting on a low self-image?

    Have a Positive Mind

“Whatever, the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve” ~ Napoleon Hill.

Life requires us to put on a positive self-image. You see, everything begins with your mind. Have you ever noticed that when you have a positively inclined mind about something the results follow suit?

If you have never observed this try to deliberately have a positive conscious mind about something good happening to you today.

Believe me, just the thought will make you feel good and act positively.

Imagine living in a society with positive-minded people. Individuals, who do not talk or act negatively towards each other, well it all starts with one person and that person is you.

Creating a positive mind is one sure way of creating a positive self-image.

With a positive self-image, even the people around you will be infected with it. This is the only disease you and I would be glad to spread.

They will begin to treat you positively. Remember you attract what you think. The more ambitious and positive you think the more you attract those things that you will need to prosper.

I agree that you may be distracted by temporal setbacks. But remember they are temporal and they offer us an opportunity to learn and grow from them.

Imagine how boring life would be without challenges. Without having to sweat before sweet comes.

Most of us especially the young generation, want to have sweet before we sweat. We want to cut corners and start enjoying good things where we did not sow, the end result is usually terrible.

If God intended for us to enjoy everything at the same time he would have done that. But, then that’s not the case. That is why he gave us stages in life.

First, you feed on your mother’s milk when you are a baby, before you graduate to feed on solids. You start small and as you learn to handle small things he increases your responsibilities.

Some of us though, have remained and have not grown to handle larger responsibilities. This has mainly got to do with our mindset.

Do you realise that we all have the same mind? It is the same mind that is in you and me. It is the same mind that has had great inventions.

The difference between success and failure is how we have positioned our minds. What mental self-image do you carry in your mind?

Having a positive mindset will definitely radiate a positive self-image.

    Act Positively

They say actions speak louder than words. True to this is how you act in different situations.

If you have to build a positive self-image then you have to act accordingly. Even when you have been challenged, be it physically or otherwise.

A positive reaction attracts positive results. You cannot create a positive self-image just in your mind without reflecting on it.

Your outward behaviour is a reflection or a mirror of your inner self. I always say that your outer reaction is an accumulation of your inner image.

One always reveals themselves by how one reacts especially in challenging situations. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks,

Self-image can only be reflected by your actions. Therefore, it is very important to act positively if you have to create a positive self-image.

Without action, there is no reaction. Imagine if all the great inventors did not act on their thoughts, we would not have been privileged to be using computers today later on the internet.

Action is the key to every outcome. There would be no outcome without some action. Personal development and self-improvement requires us to act on the knowledge we accumulate.

I don’t know about you but the knowledge I acquire is for sharing with the people I come into contact with including you reading this article. It is no use accumulating knowledge and not acting on it.

The difference between success and failure is the lack of action or acting on the wrong side of the coin. Positive action will surely enhance your self-image.

There are many situations that will come your way in life and will require your action. In this instance, your actions will be a reflection of your self-image.

This is when it matters most, what you feed your mind. If your mind is not well fed it will be revealed. The bible says “as a man thinketh so is he in his heart.” Our thoughts are predominantly what we see, hear and read.

“Watch your thoughts; they become your words. Watch your words; they become your actions. Watch your actions; they become your habits. Watch your habits; they become your character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny” ~ Frank Outlaw.

    Renew Your Mind

“You shall be transformed by the renewing of your mind” ~ the Bible.

Nothing beats the renewing of your mind other than reading. It is by far the best way to renewing your mind. What you feed your mind is very important.

From the time you are born to the time you grow up most of your character is a result of what has been fed to your mind.

I will give an example if you grew up in a home where your parents fought every now and again you will most likely end up doing the same.

It may not be your fault but your mind is conditioned that way. That is why it is important to feed your mind with the right stuff.

If you are a parent PLEASE DO NOT DO ANYTHING, especially with your spouse that sends a wrong self-image in front of your children.

Their minds are like cameras; they never forget easily. Remember that they learn from us. We, as parents, are responsible for nourishing their fragile minds.

I have given myself a target of reading one personal development and self-growth book every month this is beside the bible of course.

I know this is not much of a target but at least I feed my mind positively. Believe me, reading especially the bible, helps to build my mind which in turn helps develop my self-image.

I have always emphasised in my previous articles the importance of reading. If there is anything that you will not leave anyone with on this earth when you die, it is knowledge.

Therefore, when you acquire knowledge it is your choice whether to keep it to yourself or share it. Please don’t be self-fish learn to share so as to make this world a better place.

I am only saying this to emphasise the need to read. The Bible says “By wisdom the earth’s foundation was formed.”

Wisdom is gained through knowledge and the main source of knowledge is reading. You cannot make a wise decision without having the knowledge.

“If a man empties his purse into his head, no man can take it away from him. An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest” ~ Benjamin Franklin.

    Conclusion

Having a positive self-image can greatly accelerate your personal development and success process. We as human beings must always endeavour to improve our self-image after all we were created in the image of GOD.

The more positive your self-image is the more confident you are, carrying about your daily life.

This also gives you more confidence in achieving your, written-down life’s intended purpose. I know that there are many other ways that you can use to help improve your self-image. I would encourage you to take them one step at a time.

Always remember that you are not in a race. Personal development is your own race and only move at the pace you set for yourself. You are not competing with anyone.

  • 5 Ways to Build Good Character for Yourself

We all have skeletons in our closets. Some of the skeletons do not make us proud to look at. They remind us of the unpleasant bad past.

There is no perfect individual on planet earth, non at all. Even the so-called righteous men and women of God have dark skeletons. Some are even, darker than can be imagined.

However, there is room for all to live a changed life. What you did yesterday should not be allowed to discourage you from living a changed life.

It should never be used as an excuse for refusing to do better. You can make a difference if you change the way of your life.

You may not know it but we are role models for someone out there. Someone looks up to you. If you are a father or let me just say a parent, your children look up to you and it is your duty to bring them up in the right manner.

I have made mistakes in my life, some of which am very embarrassed and ashamed to talk about. But you know what, I am ok with the mistakes because I cannot change them.

I simply cannot change the past. I can only learn from the mistakes and move on and believe me, I have moved on and never going backwards.

When I look back from where I’m coming from to where I am today, it can only be God and I am very grateful to him that he has allowed me to live a more decent and changed life.

He has given me an opportunity for a fresh start. He has allowed me to write a new chapter in my life and I believe that there is a much bigger responsibility he has in stock for me.

My focus for the remainder of my life is to help change the world for the better.

Yes, there is so much more to work on, but my life is very different from what it was a few years back. I feel much more in control of myself and my well-being. It feels better to live like this.

I feel God allows us to experience certain things for a reason. All those late nights I used to spend wasting away my life have helped me to stay late at night doing something constructive.

You do not have to continue wasting your life away. You too can start living a positive and constructive life. There is room to change for all of us.

    Change the Way You Think

They say an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. You cannot change your past. The past is nothing but history. However, you can change the course of your future by changing the way you think.

All meaningful and long-lasting change begins with a changed mindset. If you want to see and experience significant change, start with your mind. Change your mind and begin to live a much more positive and happy life. Start where you are.

Be the change you would like to see in the world. Stop complaining about things being wrong. Do something about them, fix them for goodness sake.

Have you noticed that people who do not have much are always complaining about what they do have?

Start from your home, if something is not being done properly do it yourself rather than complain. If your house is not being cleaned to your standards, clean it yourself.

All am trying to say is that do something to change the status quo.

The mind is the factory of what comes out. You are what you think about most of the time. Your mind is capable of creating the right environment for you.

    Change Your Associations

If you want to see yourself progress, take time to reflect on the kind of associations you have. The relationships we maintain have a huge impact on our lives.

Relationships that are not handled properly can be a distraction to your personal development.

The associations you keep have an influence on your life. Start with your friends because they have a bigger influence on your social life. They say birds of the same feather flock together.

Some of the people we hang around with are not beneficial. They are toxic. Cut of all relationships that have a negative influence on your life.

You cannot expect meaningful change when you continue going to the club with your old pals if the problem you have is clubbing.

If you are in a toxic relationship you need to sort that one out. For those that are not married yet, and are in toxic relationships, my advice is to quit the relationship. It is not worth it.

If you are a girl and have a boyfriend that mistreats you, leave him. Find someone else. He will never change even when he marries you, in fact, chances are that he will be worse.

    Spiritual Growth

The church is a good place to be. Find a Bible Based Church. You will find God-fearing people that can help you grow. For me, church is about service to the people.

There is no greater feeling of satisfaction you can get than what you get when you are of service. A good church always encourages its members to be of service. We serve without expectation. We serve because we enjoy serving.

There are some good folks you can find in church that will help you grow spiritually. You like it or not, spirituality is necessary for complete personal growth and transformation.

Look, believe it or not, there is a supreme being somewhere. For me, I believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ and have found comfort in the church and reading the bible.

Spiritual growth has many benefits, one of which is the growth of your faith and the promise of a better life.

    Have Self Control

Self-control is the ability to restrain yourself from doing something adversely especially when you are emotionally charged.

Learn to keep your emotions under control. Otherwise, you may end up doing something you will regret for the rest of your life.

If you find yourself in an emotionally charged argument the best is to keep quiet and keep calm. Better still walk away. It is better to discuss when emotions have settled. That way you will be speaking with a cool head.

    Watch Your Words

Watch your words and they become life. Be careful with what you say. They say words have life.

The bible says “he spoke and it came to be.” I know that many of us have been careless with what we say especially when we are annoyed.

But words truly have life, once spoken; you cannot reverse them. Yes, you may be sorry afterward but the damage would have already been done.

Words are a direct expression of our feelings and emotions at a particular time.

Make a decision every morning that you will not curse or swear during the day. That you will not be slanderous or say something that you do not mean.

Make a decision that every word that comes from your mouth will be that of encouragement. It will not always go right but it is just the right thing to do.

The magic word to use when you realise that you are wrong is I’m sorry, and please say it unconditionally.

    Conclusion

Character is what defines a person. Change your ways and be of good character. There are many young people out there who need to be molded into young men and women with the character that can help change the world.

  • How to Enjoy the Journey of Your Life

A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step in the right direction. Do not be discouraged by what you do not have. Your life’s journey is about to begin.

“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.” Ursula Le Guin.

Today you begin to chart the course for the rest of your life. Forget about what you did not accomplish or achieve yesterday.

What you do not have, should give you the motivation to move your life from where you are to where you want it to be. From The state of stagnation to a state of accomplishment.

What you do not have, you cannot lose. The most important possessions you have right now are your life and your health. These are the two most important things you should worry about. Ensure you protect them at all costs.

Many of us are living a life that we are not happy with. This should not discourage any of us from aiming to achieve more with our lives.

You need to start from somewhere. You need to start from where you are. What lies ahead is more than what you have left behind.

Your current situation or circumstances should instead give you motivation for working even harder to better your life. It will not be easy, but it can be done and it has been done before.

Your source of encouragement should be, if someone has done it before then you can do it even better by learning from them because you are not reinventing the will but working with a proven method.

    Start From Where You Are

Do not despise the days of your humble beginnings. Start with what you have and from where you are.

Be dedicated to your cause and give it all you have. Regardless of what amount of resources you have, just get started. Along the way, you will learn to build more resources.

Take stock of your current possessions, especially your personal skills set. You will be amazed to learn that you have far more than you thought you had. Your human capital is more than adequate to get you started.

God has given all of us, unique talents to enable us to do something worthwhile with our lives. If only you can unlock them they are the gateway to a better and more fulfilling life for you. Life is much easier when you are doing what you love.

If you have been waiting for the right moment to start,  today is that moment. It is the right time to take that leap of faith and move into the unknown.

Today is the day you will look back with pride and appreciate that you took decisive action and stepped into the unknown.

Your journey to conquer your fears and experience life begins with the step you are taking.

Have courage and faith that you will enjoy your journey. Yes, there will be rough patches here and there, but with God by your side, you will triumph.

    Make Everyday Count

Every day of your life is a blessing, make it count. You are the master of your soul. No one on this earth will make you happier than yourself.

You are most happier when you are doing the things that you love doing. Time seems to stop when you are enjoying what you do.

Enjoy these moments and make sure you do more of them very often. Life is too short to be sad. Make every day a special one.

Not everything will go accordingly but decide to be happy regardless of the situation.

You owe it to yourself to live a happy and fulfilling life. You are special in the eyes of God. Do not let anyone take that away from you.

No one has the right to dictate or influence your current situation without your permission. Not even your spouse, your boyfriend, or whoever, they have absolutely no right without your permission.

You cannot give an excuse that it was so and so who led me to do Something wrong. I find these excuses childish.

If you are in the wrong place it is your choice. You can either stay or move, the choice is yours to make. But make sure to make the right choice.

The best way we can contribute positively to humanity is by ensuring that our own lives are a reflection of what we want. If we profess Christianity people must see Christ living in us.

We must be the change we want to see in the world. That change begins with you and I changing the way we think, the way we do things, and the way we treat others.

    Take Charge of Your Life

You are responsible for your life. No one is answerable for your life. It is your right. If you think someone will give an account for you, then you are mistaken.

Nature demands that each and every one of us account for our conduct. It also demands that we do the right things. I know that it is in our nature to do the right things.

I also know that we have a tendency to do otherwise. God help us.

Your life is in your hands. You are responsible for making sure that you account for it and make meaningful contributions to humanity. It is your duty to make the world a better place than you found it.

    Celebrate Your Small Achievements

As you take on the journey of life, remember to always celebrate the small achievements you make. This will ensure that you stay motivated and keep on pushing.

Success is made of the small achievements that we make along the way. These are the ones that motivate and inspire people to even do more.

As you pursue and walk the journey of your life, enjoy your current moments and celebrate them with your loved ones.

    Conclusion

Life is indeed a journey. You start off with people and as the journey progresses people disembark on different destinations. Still, the train of life continues to deliver people to various destinations. Make sure you make that first step in the right direction and never look back.

  • 2 Reasons Why You Are Responsible For Your Life

“I am the captain of my soul. I am the master of my fate” – William Henley. If you didn’t know, now you know that you are solely responsible for your life. The choices and decisions you make are your responsibility.

Stop blaming other people for your under achievements and take responsibility to correct them. Humans have a tendency of playing the blame game. We want to have an excuse for our failures and inadequacies.

Most of the time we want to find someone or something to blame when things are not going right.

But do you realise that most of the time, if not all time we are responsible for the outcome of our decisions?

If you make poor or bad choices do you expect to have good or better results? Why then do you want to blame other people for your choices?

This lack of being in control of our lives has cost many of us opportunities for growth.

Look if I had been in total control of my life from a young age I know for sure that I could have achieved many things. Am pretty sure you can relate to this as well.

However, the fact that I have not progressed as desired does not preclude me from being accountable for my life. It is my responsibility to ensure that I achieve and attain my God given destiny.

I know for sure that we all want to live a good and pleasant. But, every good thing comes with a price.

For you to live a good life you must first take responsibility and be prepared to pay the price and usually it is a very high one.

Sometimes the small things we do may seem to be insignificant. Well you are wrong, success is doing the small things that need to be done and when added up they become significant.

Being responsible makes you feel at peace with yourself. As human beings we do not like being associated with negative results. But remember that it is the movement from negative to positive that determines the level of your success.

Personal development and self-improvement starts from being responsible for your life. When you are in control of your life it is much easier to chart the course for your life.

Yes, things will not always go accordingly, but you will learn to handle disappointments more maturely and improve on your weaknesses.

    The Need to Be Accountable

“Some men have thousands of reasons why they cannot do what they want to; all they need is one reason why they can” – Willis Whitney.

“A desire to be in charge of our own lives, and a need for control is born in each of  us. It is essential to our mental health, and our success, that we take control” – Robert F. Bennett.

When I was growing up I had no sense of accountability. For me life was just about enjoying myself and nothing else. But slowly as I approached my teens and advanced in my education things started to change.

The demand from my Dad to perform better and keep up with school work, made me realise that I needed to be accountable for my life. At least then, it was out of fear of being reprimanded by my Dad.

I thank God and give a lot of credit to my late Dad for the role he played in making me realise that I needed to be accountable for my life not only to myself but to him as well. This was a game-changer for my life.

Being able to be accountable made me realise that I also needed to be in charge of my life. Because you will not be able to give a positive account if you do not know what you are doing. I think being accountable makes you responsible.

Fast forward, am no longer accountable to my Dad but I have a wife and children that look up to me. Apart from God and society at large these are the people that am directly accountable to.

You see because I now have my own family and they depend on me, I have learned that my life is not just about me. It is also about them. I need to strike a balance between my needs and also meet their needs.

So far they have been very supportive of my work and I really thank them. But I do not take it for granted.

Being accountable to someone makes you grow as an individual. It also helps you measure the level of your growth. If you do not have someone you are answerable to, it takes a lot of discipline to stay focused.

I encourage you to find someone you can be answerable to. I know that the temptation especially for us men to wanting freedom is greater, but if you want to have better control of your life you need to have someone who can help you be in check.

One Day You Will Be Answerable

“Your talent is God’s gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God” – Leo Buscaglia.

I believe in God and the resurrection and that we were all created by him. I also believe that there is a heaven and hell somewhere.

The one who gives us life on a daily basis will one day demand an explanation of how we lived our lives on earth.

We will be answerable to him, that is why we must try as much as possible to live according to his word.

I have developed a never give up mentality because for every day that I wake up, I believe that God still has use for me.

Oh yes, I know that some things have eluded me, but I also believe that there are much better opportunities to come for me.

Always look to the brighter side of life. Stop complaining about going through the darkest side of life. If not you, then who?

Get on and do the right thing bearing in mind that one day you will be answerable to your creator.

    Conclusion

Life is too short. Focus from this day forward on making a difference. It is your responsibility to ensure that you attain your God-given destiny.

With each choice you make, you create your life. Choose wisely and above all be responsible for your life.

  • The 4 Keys to Success

Everyone wants to achieve personal success. Every one of us wants to learn the ropes of being successful. We all have one common goal in life. To be successful and live a happy and fulfilling life.

We all have a desire to make a difference in the world. But many of us struggle to triumph and live a below-average life style.

Many have read on the subject of personal success. Many, if not all are students of the subject. Only a few are good students and are successful. While many fall in the category of bad students and are struggling.

It is almost impossible to understand the subject of success in one attempt. However, in all the books I have come across, there are similarities. The presentations and presenters, may be different but most of them have similar themes and methods of achieving success.

There are basically 4 keys that you need to help you achieve your success and these are:-

    Write Down Your Goals

Without writing down your own goals, you will be shooting in the air; you will just be drifting and moving along aimlessly; you will be at the bottom of the park which is crowded. To have meaningful success you need to write down your goals and start working on them.

This is the only way to measure your success. Your written down goals have to be measurable and specific. I like to personalise them by saying “I earn so much by such a date; I have done this by such a date.”

You are the only person that can use the “I” for yourself. No one else can use it on you. Making such pronouncements helps to immediately know the exact target and the expected results. It also sets a deadline. Being exact with the goal gives motivation every time you read it.

Since the goals are measurable, if, by the set date, I have not achieved the target, I simply adjust the date accordingly. However, I do not adjust the goal because by then my mind is already conditioned and working to achieve the set goal.

Remember that the goals you set must be those that are in tandem with your overall life’s objectives. They must help you get closer to achieving your life’s intended purpose.

Do not underestimate the power of writing down your goals. I usually carry around a notebook with me. Where I write down ideas and many other personal things. Don’t just rely on your memory, write down your goals.

    Set a Deadline

Everything in life has a useful shelf life. Some things have a much longer useful shelf life than others. That is why deadlines are important. They make you work extra hard. We are always working to beat deadlines because we all know that time waits for no one.

Setting reasonable deadlines is also key to ensuring that you achieve your success. Reasonable deadlines are those that give you ample time to be creative, work, and stay motivated. I have found that short deadlines can be a source of frustration especially if the goals are not achieved.

Everyone has an optimum point when they give in their best. This is the time when you are full of energy and enthusiastic for life. The time when you can take on any challenge without much of a problem. This is the best time to ensure that you work extra hard to do the right things.

If you are relatively younger this is the best time to ensure that you put your act together. Stop fooling around. Get to work and you will enjoy the benefits later. I know that a day will come when those energy levels will be a thing of the past. Ask those who are well advanced in age and they will tell you.

The way I set my goals is that they include a deadline in the goal itself so am always in the know if am working beyond my expected deadline date. The thing with having deadlines is that your mind is tuned in and expectant to achieve a result at the set time.

I have noticed that somehow your mind is constantly alert to your deadline and this keeps you working towards achieving or beating the set deadline.

    Take Action

They say actions speak louder than words. Yes, it is important to set goals and having deadlines. But, setting goals and having deadlines will not achieve anything if you do not take action. Most of our plans die a natural death because we do not act on them. Taking action will ensure that you start moving towards your goals.

Create a habit of taking action that will help you achieve your goals on a daily basis. Take one step at a time. If your goal is to make say US$200,000 by say 31 December, decide how you are going to make this money and get started with the process.

We have a habit of just making good pronouncements and leaving everything to God. Look, God is not going to make you rich without you playing your part. God will open an opportunity for you and it is entirely up to you to cease it and make good use of it.

You have a big part to play in God’s picture. I have noticed a tendency, especially amongst us Christians of saying “I receive in Jesus’ name” when a preacher makes certain pronouncements and we leave it at that.

Yes, receive it and start working on actualising the pronouncement by taking action. Get up and go to work. The bible says “the Lord will bless the work of your hands.” Those who succeed are those who try and take action. It is better to die trying.

    Persist Until You Succeed

Success does not come easy and does not come cheap. If it were easy, then we would all have been successful. There would have been no need to talk about it. But we talk about it because we know the challenges that people will face on the path to success.

Yes, things will not always go according to your plan, and most of the time they never, but when you persist you will triumph over any challenge. Persistence is key to your success. Those who are successful are those who are resilient and persistent. They know that challenges have to be conquered.

Without persistence, you are surely doomed to fail. Because along the way to success you will be met with many of them. Some of these challenges may look to be insurmountable. Your success will be largely determined by your persistence.

The bigger your goals are the more hard work and persistence you need to have. Be prepared that on your journey to success you will be greatly tested. You will need to focus on the things that you have an influence on, as these are the things that will help you overcome your challenges.

    Conclusion

“Successful people tend to become more successful because they are always thinking about their successes” – Brian Tracy.

There are many ways to succeed but the above are key for me and they seem to work so far. You can devise what works for you but I reckon that they will not be very different from mine. We are all wired to succeed and the ball is in our hands.

  • Learn to Keep Your Dreams Alive

The key to happiness is having dreams. The key to success is making your dreams come true.

We all have dreams, but life can be a discouragement. Life has a way of pushing our dreams backwards.

We all have gone through a rough patch in our lives and this may have resulted in you burying your dreams. There are various reasons why your dreams could be buried.

Some dreams are buried under bad health; some are buried under divorce and still, most people are buried with their dreams. Dr. Myles Monroe says the richest place on earth is the cemetery.

This is where you find songs that have never been sung; books that have never been written; paintings that have never been painted; businesses that have never been actualised; buildings that have never been built and many other dreams that will never be realised.

Even though your dreams have been buried, for as long as you still have the breath of life they are still alive, God has not forgotten about them. Your dreams may be buried but they are not dead.

Most of us are discouraged when we are met with temporal adversity. But do you realise that obstacles are part of the bigger picture to help you achieve your dreams?

The adversities we face are part of the process we go through to actualise our dreams. The many obstacles that you will encounter are part of the journey to achieving your dreams.

Success is born from the challenges we face. Each obstacle you encounter is a stepping stone on your journey to greatness. Embrace these hurdles, for they are the true measures of your strength and resilience. Every struggle you overcome brings you closer to your goals. Keep pushing forward; your perseverance will pave the way to success.

The fact that you have dreams does not necessarily mean that they will be achieved without hard work and persistence.

Yes, it’s very important and necessary to have dreams but that does not guarantee that you will not come across challenges. Life is full of challenges and these are meant to prepare you and take you to the next level.

It is never too late to realise your dreams. It does not matter how old you are if you awaken the dreams that God put on your heart you will surely achieve them.

The bible says I will restore the years that the locust has eaten”. God has a way of giving us back our lost time.

Do not die with your dreams, but allow God Almighty to help you share your dreams with the world.

When God created you, he put in you all the gifts and talents needed to overcome any adversity and obstacle that you may encounter on your way to achieving your goals.

He put in you the ability to change adversity into diversity; the ability to overcome obstacles.

    Write Down Your Dreams

We must keep a hard copy of our dreams. Most successful people have written down their dreams.

Read goals and goal setting for more details. There is a saying that when you write down your dreams when people read them, they will most likely follow them and this will eventually help you realise them even more quickly.

Writing down your dreams also acts as a constant reminder. Every so often it is important to refer back to them and constantly remind yourself of what you want to achieve.

It is not easy to commit to something you that is not written down because you will not fully recall it after some time.

Regularly review your progress and make improvements. This can only be done if you have written them down.

I have developed a habit of writing down what I want to achieve. Every year I make resolutions and set out goals to be achieved.

I make sure that they conform to the bigger picture of what my life’s intended purpose is.

Life is becoming more bearable for me as each day I focus on what I want to achieve. Yes, sometimes I find myself fire fighting. But I always try as much as possible to learn from fire fighting instances.

Sometimes you may feel that there are too many setbacks, but do you realise that those same “setbacks” are “setups” to achieving your dreams?

They propel you to see beyond the current circumstances. In every bad situation, there is always something positive.

You may not understand it but I think God does not allow us go through the storm alone. He always provides a way where there seems to be no way.

God is always with us and he is always providing guidance. The current that determine our dreams and shapes our lives, flow from the attitude that we nurture every day.

Speak Life to Every Dead Situation

There is power in your tongue. What you say usually comes to pass. Remember that even during creation the Bible tells us in Genesis that every time God spoke: “it came to be”.

For example on the first day of creation God said “let there be light” and here we are today, we have light throughout the day.

All through creation we are told God said whatever he wanted to see and that is what came out and was created.

To me, this demonstrates the power that the tongue holds. We are in our current situations mostly because of what we hold as thoughts and what we have said in the past.

In other words, we have created our situations knowingly or unknowingly.

If you go about complaining about how hard the economy is and how things are not working out for you, that is exactly what will come to pass in your life.

Have you noticed that when economists predict a rise in inflation or commodity prices that is exactly what happens around the world? And the opposite is also true.

This is equally true even with us on an individual level. When we speak positively about our life things begin to change.

Therefore, it is important that you learn to always speak positive words of encouragement when faced with negative situations.

One source of encouragement is the Bible. God has promised us so many good things even when we are faced with adversities.

If you are sick, begin to claim your healing because the bible promises us good health and long life. “With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation” – the Bible.

It may take time but every time you speak healing to your body you unbury your dreams of being healthy again.

Begin to see yourself walking and living your dreams because God promised it. Speak positive affirmations to all negative situations in your life.

Yes, you may be struggling financially but remember that God promised that he shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory. Not some, but all of them.

    Trust in God

“Because he loves me, says the Lord, I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name” – the Bible.

At the end of the day, we are all created by God in his image and likeness. Whether we like it or not the Bible tells us in Genesis, that we are all created in Gods image.

It’s like when we buy an appliance, the first thing we do is read the user’s manual and understand how the new appliance works and what its limitations are.

The mere fact that we take time to read what the manufacturer’s manual says, we are placing our trust in the manufacturer because they are the creators of that appliance.

We are acknowledging that the manufacturer knows the appliance better than us and gives us instructions on how to use it.

It’s the same with us as human beings. If we live trusting God he surely does not let us down. Yes, sometimes things may not go as we want them, but God Almighty knows what’s best for us.

All things work out for the better if we put your trust in God. Over the years I have learned to trust God. There are times when I feel that he is far away from me but my plans are not his.

I know for sure that he has much much better plans for my life than I can imagine. I try as much as possible to live my life according to his plans.

The fact that am still alive is testimony enough that God cares about me. You may not realise it but we all have many things to thank God for.

If it’s wealth, I believe that this world has more than enough to go round for all the 6 billion + inhabitants.

Most of the time we find ourselves on the wrong end because we ignore what God is telling us, and usually, this is done out of selfish motives.

There is a time I learned the hard way. I was trying to grow some tomatoes on a large scale for sale.

God had clearly told me to do my own seedlings, this would have meant that I plant the seeds and wait for at least a month or so before transplanting them, but instead, I decided to go and buy the seedlings. I was trying to cut down on waiting time.

They started very well and I thought you see I could have wasted time. My my my I lost everything after putting in so much effort and wasting money on fertilisers and chemicals.

By the time I decided to do what God had earlier told me, it was too late and the rains were upon us. I guess God was trying to guide me to work within his plans.

    Conclusion

“We should show our lives not as it is or how it ought to be, but only as we see it in our dreams” – Count Leo Tolstoy.

I believe that every reasonable human being has a dream, in fact, many dreams.

The difference between successful people and average people is that successful people have kept their dreams alive and are seriously perusing them.

If you are reading this article I know that you have dreams, it is my prayer and hope that you will ask God to not allow you to go to the grave without realising them.
