The Joy of Serving People

“Only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution will ever experience life’s deepest joy; true fulfillment” – Anthony Robbins.

We live to serve people. Humanity was created for service. Whatever job you do, the ultimate goal is related to serving people.

Your job may involve interacting with people directly or indirectly; in any case, life is ultimately about serving people.

If what you do doesn’t benefit people, then you are robbing the world. Every day of your life there is a time when you have to serve someone directly or indirectly.

It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do; there comes a time when you have to serve someone. Service that is beneficial to the person being served and especially to the person serving. The Bible says, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

People do not realise and appreciate the joy and satisfaction in being of service. The more you serve, the more happiness you experience.

People will remember you by the way you treat them and the way you talk to them. The small things you do and say really matter and count.

If you are a parent or a guardian, you will agree with me that you take pride and joy in serving your children and spouse.

I always try as much as I can to be of help and make myself available whenever time allows. With the busy schedule I have had on my plate over the past, I have spared some time during the week when I give my family undivided attention.

My two children know they can ask me to play with them, and they don’t expect any objections. Sometimes my youngest son David will remind me and say that today is our time with you.

I have noticed that ever since I deliberately created more time for them, there is a sense of togetherness. I am beginning to grow more patient with them as so many things are changing.

This has helped improve my understanding and enhanced my relationship with my family. I guess this is very important, especially since my eldest son Lutangu is getting into his teens.

In other words, I am discovering the other side of me; the patient side of me; the gentle side of me.

Because generally, I am not a very patient person. Now they look forward to those days. When we are playing games, I am the one who is usually serving them; I am the one who does the dirty work, and they get to enjoy seeing me all dirty.

I also serve at church in the traffic department. We are the first people you meet and the last people you see when you come to church on Sundays.

It is a tough job, especially on hot and rainy days, but the joy and satisfaction you get when serving God’s people is just immeasurable.

People will always appreciate the service you render them no matter what. Even if they don’t thank you immediately, they will at some point thank you.

All you have to do is continue doing what is right. It is such a joy when you find people thanking you for your service.

That is why it is always important to say thank you when you are being served; it simply encourages the person providing the service to do even more and better.

There is Growth from Service

Apart from just the joy you get from serving, there is also personal growth and development.

We are all called to serve. The world needs more people to serve. If you are not deliberately serving people, I encourage you to take time to find something that you can do to serve others.

It could be at your workplace. Be the one who helps out a colleague; be the one who is more dependable in a certain area. Don’t just wait to be served; be the service driver.

Not just helping your boss but also helping your peers. The more you practice helping, the more you grow, and the more satisfaction you get and derive happiness. The rewards of serving are immense.

I developed this website not only to share my personal experience but to be of service to people.

The articles I write are mainly personal experiences through which I hope that someone is being encouraged and challenged to do even better with their lives.

Over the years, I have also enjoyed personal growth because of my own articles. I do a lot of reading and research. As a result, I am learning every day of my life.

I can only thank God for the ideas and opportunities he has given me to develop this website. I believe that I am still very much a work in progress.

There are many, in fact too many, areas of my life that need to be worked on, and slowly but surely they are being turned around.

Conclusion

“Love is the joy of the good, the wonder of the wise, the amazement of the Gods” – Plato.

Through the service of people, lives can be changed and transformed. As we serve and grow, we should endeavour to reach out to the world at large.

I believe that serving people is also one way to unlock your full potential. One can realise their potential by serving people.

Again, I would like to encourage you to find something you can do and be of service to the community around you. Start small and slowly reach out to a larger audience.  Take joy in serving people.
