What is character? “the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual” – Oxford Dictionary.

Nature compels us all to move through life, but every right-thinking person wants not merely to move through life like an empty bottle, but to develop, to improve, and to continue the development of his thoughts to the close of physical life.

Yet, most of the people have remained stagnant and wallow in poverty and live in mediocrity.

This development can only occur through the improvement of the quality of the individual’s thoughts and the ideals and actions that arise thereof.

Every one of us has the power of will and choice, and can, therefore, exercise them in the selection of the type or kind of life to lead.

Personal development is not an easy task and no one can say they have arrived at the station of personal development.

It is not a destination either but, a continuous exercise. We can only get closer to perfection as we continue to build ourselves on a daily basis.

The only way to keep from going backward is to keep going forward. There are three things that you need in order to help build your character.

Knowledge of the Power Within

Surely knowledge is supreme and all growth is from within. The bible tells us that “without knowledge, my people perish.”

Perhaps the most cardinal ingredient to personal development and achievement is knowledge no one single person can do without it.

You need to acquire knowledge in order that you succeed at anything you desire to do.

He who desires wisdom, power, or permanent success of any kind will find it only within.

Knowledge is the number one building block to achieving your personal development and success. Therefore, you need a solid foundation of knowledge if you are to succeed in any endeavor you set out to do.

How to Build Your Character

Knowledge leads to skills. A good set of knowledge leads to a good set of life skills. In order to build and improve on your skills, you need to build on your arsenal of knowledge.

One of the best ways I do to build my knowledge is by reading, watching motivational videos, and listening to self-improvement materials.

I also read the Bible on a daily basis. I have come to appreciate the bible because it also offers not only a wealth of knowledge but also spiritual growth.

The only way not to go backward is to keep moving forward. When you discover the power within you, the sky is the limit if only you can touch the clouds.

Courage to Dare

How many of us have the courage and I mean real courage to dare? Many of us fail because we have no courage.

We are always saying what if I start up a business and I fail? Dare yourself and say what if I start a business and succeed.

You will never know what you can achieve until you dare to try out.

Surely we are what we think. The thoughts we harbor are reflections of what we are “as a man thinketh so is he in his heart.”

You must always remember that all there is today is as a result of thought. Think about all the buildings you see around you. They all first existed in someone’s mind.

The Bible encourages us to be strong and courageous, not to be discouraged, and not to be terrified.

The courage to dare is the most lacking ingredient to people’s success. Most people have developed brilliant ideas yet they lack the courage to dare implement them.

We always find excuses for not implementing our ideas and thoughts.

The most successful men and women have the courage to dare implement their ideas. Failure is a state of mind. You only fail when you accept failure.

The Faith to Do

What is faith? “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Knowledge alone will not bring forth success. You need to have faith and believe in what you are doing in order to bring forth results.

Faith is a powerful tool needed to achieve any level of success. Walk-in faith and just start living your dreams.

If faith is so important how then do you acquire it? The Bible says “faith cometh by hearing.”

I have discovered that one of the best ways to develop faith is to write down your intended purpose and desire and read it to yourself aloud every morning and night.

The repeated reading of your life’s mission statement will be impressed on your subconscious. As your mind becomes attuned to your intended purpose and desires you will develop the faith to do.

Conclusion

Like I always mention in many of my articles the subject of personal development is not an easy one. I believe that the above article has helped you.

A good mix of the three will definitely yield better results for you. Personal development is a lifelong commitment and should be taken seriously as this is a measure of your character.

Remember to always standout tall and be counted.”
